I think the important topics are:

-          Functional Safety in general:

o   Systems Engineering and Hazard Analysis and Methods (FTA, FMEA, HAZOP)

-          Software Process Models and Software Quality Management and Measurement

-          Linux Kernel Architecture, e.g., memory management, scheduling, drivers etc.

-          Linux Kernel Develop Process
